This week, the students got to see all of their hard work pay off. They created something beautiful that they can share with others, and will have a lasting impact on their community. The students feel proud, accomplished, and feel like they really helped provide access to books for our community. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this experience possible!
Here is what we did this week:
Our books arrived!!
We prepared for exhibition by reading our books to the class. As you saw at exhibition, students did a beautiful job reading with expression using their "loud and proud" voice.
Exhibition #1 - Public Exhibition
We had a wonderful time reading our stories at the Old California Coffee House. We also raised money for our project and collected lots of books to add to the little libraries.
Expert Author Visit
A new children's book author, Mrs. Jennie Abito, and her editor came to 2nd Grade! Mrs. Jennie read her book, Time Travel to us, and they shared about their process creating a book. The students asked a lot of great questions and made connections between Mrs. Jennie and her editor's work with their own writing processes.
Our hearts were bursting with pride and happiness on our final trip to the preschool. We presented the library to the students and then read books to our preschool buddies. At this exhibition, the students truly shared the gift of reading and literacy with their community. Many students felt relieved and happy that the preschoolers loved their books and the little library. It was truly amazing to see all preschoolers immersed in a literacy experience for a significant amount of time!
While we were very sad to leave our new friends, but we took comfort in the fact that we left the preschoolers with a beautiful library made with lots of love, and books that will help them grow.
