Here are some highlights from this week:
- Building reading stamina: we reached our goal of reading successfully for 10 minutes during independent reading time! This meant that all students were actively engaged in a book, and demonstrating strong reading practices (ex. choosing a quiet space to read, good reading postures, tracking with finger, make text-to-self connections while reading). We will continue to build stamina as we establish our Daily 5 literacy block.
- Personal writing journals- students got their very own composition notebooks for their writing! We started by personalizing the cover page of our journals and writing a reflection about our day. Students will continue to write in their journals at least one time each day.
- Chrome books! The kids were SO EXCITED for our laptop exploration! They took such great care of the very special classroom materials and made good choices while working with the computers. Students have now activated their gmail accounts (email addresses and passwords will go home soon!)
- ST Math: students have now activated their 2nd grade ST math account. Please let me know if there are any questions about logging in at home
- Class Garden: we had so much fun exploring, harvesting, and eating the food from our class garden! Right now we have beautiful cherry tomato and watermelon plants flourishing in our garden bed. We will have a garden expert come in soon to help us decide what to plant next for the fall season
- Hopes and dreams: We have started setting goals for ourselves and our class for this year. This week, each student established at least one goal for something they want to learn or improve upon this year in 2nd grade
