Thank you so much to all of the parents who were able to make it to our Back To School Night! It was so wonderful to see you and tell you a little bit more about our little world in Room 157 :) I am so excited to work with you this year and bring your knowledge and expertise into our classroom in any way we can!

Here are some highlights from our week:
Back To School Night Preparation
Students wrote letters to parents telling them a little bit about their time in the classroom. They LOVED getting to read your letters back! Through this process we learned about the parts and purpose of a letter. We also hope you liked the sidewalk chalk at the entrance to the school! The students wanted to make sure you felt welcomed coming into school. My personal favorite was Jose's red carpet :)
I Am Tile Project
After going through another round of critique with a peer, students made 2nd and 3rd Drafts of their "I Am" tiles. We used modge podge to mount them onto the ceramic tiles that you saw at Back To School night. Now, we will to put all of the tiles together to proudly display at the entrance of our classroom. The tiles put together represent the beautiful community we can create when you put us all together.
Class Rules
Students took ownership of our classroom and worked together beautifully create our 5 classroom rules for the year. We started with over 100 sticky notes for what the students wanted to see in our classroom, and narrowed it down to these five rules:
- Be positive and always keep trying
- Be safe with your body
- Only use nice words
- Do things that will make others happy, and care for each other
- Use the classroom materials how they are supposed to be used
Class Vocabulary Book
We introduce this classroom material during our critique and letter writing activities. This book will help us learn new vocabulary words, establish common language surrounding regular classroom work (i.e. writing letters, critiquing a partner's work), and master the spelling of frequently used words.
Math card games
We introduced card games as a way to help us with our math skills. Our first game is Brandon's favorite: War! This game along with a data recording sheet helps us understand the concepts of greater than, less than, and equal. We will continue to build upon this game and others throughout the year.
